Call out for volunteers! Forest Fuel Mitigation Event. We can make a difference together!
The Friends of Woodhaven is committed to assisting the Regional District of the Central Okanagan in reducing the fire fuel load in Woodhaven Regional Conservancy and in the neighbouring communities.
Please join us on Saturday October 19 to haul more flammable sticks and dead broken branches from the forest floor. We will be there from 9:30 a.m until 12:30 p.m., so you are invited to join us at any time that morning. If you are interested in volunteering, please register here or send an email to nancyholmes.nh@gmail.com with an RSVP about when you’d like to help out. Bring friends, colleagues, neighbours! Middle school and teens are most welcome too.
Come to the parking lot of Woodhaven (4711 Raymer Road) with work gloves and good footwear. Dress for the weather. We’re doing this rain or shine! THe RDCO will have any other equipment we need, and this year they are also bringing a chipper to help us out!
Like last year, we will also have high school classes coming to work earlier in the week. In previous years high school students and several member volunteers removed more than 3.5 tonnes of debris from the forest each fall. Let’s continue the project, moving into a different section of the park!
